Gil’s Story

It was 2006 when Gil Taylor, a divorced, 30-something year old Paramedic from the United Kingdom, glanced at an advertisement saying that Queensland Ambulance Service was coming to London to recruit.

What an incredible opportunity – until that point it had been very difficult to move between countries as a paramedic, due to different standards and education.

Having always loved the thought of living in Oz, Gil was one of the first to line up for an Interview. He impressed the interviewers, and in a few short months, he was on his way to a new life in Queensland on a 457 visa.

Gil and Annette Taylor

Gil quickly settled into his new life in Rockhampton, creating a close circle of friends through work and interests. One day, Gil met Annette – a lovely Australian lady from Longreach, in outback Queensland.

They started a relationship, and pretty quickly Gil became a step father to Annette’s young son. Not long afterwards, the couple married; and Annette fell pregnant. In February 2009, son Harrison was born, followed soon after by daughter Rhiannon.

A Happy Family

Gil became a Permanent Resident with help from Emergico.

Today, Gil is happily married, with three children, and the family share their home with his wife’s parents. He’s highly respected in the Rockhampton community through his work as a Paramedic.

Life has changed incredibly for Gil, in ways that he would never have imagined, and it was all because he answered an advertisement in 2006 and took a leap of faith!
