Incoming Travel Ban comes into effect for non-Australian permanent residents and citizens coming into Australia. Exceptions are in place for:
- New Zealand Citizens who are usually resident in Australia;
- Immediate family members (spouse and dependent children) of an Australian citizen or PR.
- Temporary visa holders who have already established a presence in Australia, may have their travel restrictions adjusted on a case by case basis.
All people arriving in Australia will be subject to a 14 day self isolation period, which is legally enforceable.
There are specified ways in which to get a temporary visa endorsed, to allow you to travel, if you fall under one of the exemption categories.
Strategies are being considered by the Government to ensure that essential services continue to run, and this may include a travel ban exemption for essential and critical workers to enter Australia. Details have not been advised as yet.
The Government is also aware of the potential impact on temporary visa holders who lose their livelihoods, and are looking at services to alleviate this.
