CONTRIBUTORY AGED PARENT VISA

SUBCLASS 864 (PATHWAY FROM 884)

If you are a parent of children permanently settled in Australia, and already hold a Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa – subclass 884, this visa could provide a pathway to permanent residency. 

Introduction

This visa must be applied for from within Australia.  It allows subclass 884 visa holders to apply for permanent residency.

The visa applicant must be of pensionable age in Australia, pass the ‘Balance of Family’ test by having at least half their children based permanently in Australia, and meet health and character requirements.

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Already hold a subclass 884 visa which was granted in the last 2 years. 
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Pay an additional (‘contributory’) charge to the Australian government immediately prior to your visa grant

What will this visa provide?

  • Permanent residency of Australia
  • Rights to work and study in Australia
  • Travel rights to and from Australia for five years
  • Opportunity to work towards Australian citizenship
  • Allowance to enroll in Medicare (Australia’s health-related expenses scheme)

Assurance of Support

A bond called an ‘Assurance of Support’ is payable by the Australian child (or another eligible party).  This is $10,000 for the main applicant and $4,000 for each additional adult applicant.  It is held for 10 years.
