The Subclass 489 – Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa will cease forever on the 15th November 2019. It is being replaced by another Visa, the Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional).
The Department of Home Affairs has now announced key dates in relation to the closure of the 489 Visa.

10th September 2019
LAST DAY for State and Territory Governments to nominate a person for a 489 Visa, AND the LAST DAY for an applicant to lodge an Expression of Interest in Skill Select for a 489 Visa.

15th November 2019
Last Day for people who have been Invited to lodge a Subclass 489 Visa Application.

Are you Holding a 489 Visa and worried about your permanent residency pathway?
People already holding, or who have applied for, the 489 visa, are unaffected by these changes. You will continue on as before, until you are eligible for permanent residency through the Subclass 887 Pathway. So no need to be concerned. The changes just apply to new applicants for the visa.
